The city is
a primary center for culture, religion and education. The confluence of Ganga,
Yamuna and mythical Saraswati rivers defines this city. Many national and

Places to Visit
1 - Sangam (confluence of
rivers)
It is located about 8 km from Allahabad Junction. This is the point where the brown
water of the Ganga meets the green water of the Yamuna, along with the mythical
Saraswati, which remains unseen but believed to run underground. At the
mid-river point priests perch on small platforms to perform puja and assist the
devout in their ritual ablutions in the shallow waters. A dip in the Sangam
water is supposed to be the holiest of the holy pilgrimages for the devout
Hindu. It is during the Kumbh/Ardh Kumbh that the Sangam truly comes alive,
attracting the devout from all across the country. The Magh Mela is held at the
Sangam every year in January-February. The Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years
and was last held in 2013.
2 - Saraswati
Ghat
Around the corner from
Sangam (on
the banks of Yamuna) there is
Saraswati Ghat, home to a nightly aarti (an auspicious lighting of
lamps/candles). Discover leisurely boating and feel the adrenaline flow of
water here.
3 - Mankameshwar Temple
It is situated near Saraswati Ghat, this
is one of the famous Shiva Temples of Allahabad. It is believed that that after
performing abhishekam to lord Siva here, ones wish will be fulfilled particularly
on Saturday evening PRODOSHA PUJA is very auspicious.
4 - Swaraj
Bhawan
It
is also situated near Saraswati Ghat. The old Anand Bhawan, which was donated
in 1930 to the Nation by Moti Lal Nehru, to be used as the headquarters of the
Congress Committee. Moti Lal Nehru renamed it as Swaraj Bhawan. Late Prime
Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi was born here.

5 - Allahabad Museum
The ancestral home of the Nehru family has been turned into
a fine museum. Here, many momentous decisions, events, related to took the
freedom struggle place. The main building houses a museum which displays the
memorabilia of the Nehru family. The museum has a good collection of
sculpture, especially of the Gupta era.
6 - Chandra Shekar Azad Park
Adjacent to the museum, this splendid
park is also known as Company Bagh (British colonial era Alfred Park). It is
the biggest park in Allahabad. It has some fine colonial buildings, including
the public library. G.N. Jha Research Institute and the statue of Chandra
Shekhar Azad, the great martyr who laid down his life fighting British force
here.
7 - Khusro Bagh
It is located near Allahabad Junction Railway
Station. Khusro Bagh is a Mughal garden made by Jahangir in memory of his son
Prince Khusro. This is the spot where Prince Khusro was murdered by his brother
Shah Jahan. Built in 1622, Khusro’s tomb is a sandstone mausoleum in the center
of the garden. The tomb of his sister and the two-storied tomb of Khusro’s
mother, Shah Begam, are to the west of the Khusro’s tomb. It presents an
